Meet Nutmeg, the world’s oldest cat, who has just celebrated his 31st birthday which is equivalent of 141 in human years.
Nutmeg was adopted by an amazing family 26 years ago, when he had just showed up in their backyard.
”He rules the house and he’s absolutely gorgeous,” explains Nutmeg’s owner.
In 1990, his owners, Liz and Ian Finlay took the cat to their local Cats Protection to treat Nutmeg’s abscess on the neck. There, they were told that their cat was at least 5 years old. According vet’s prediction Nutmeg is probably the oldest cat in the world. Still, to qualify for Guinness Records, they have to prove his age which is quite tricky.
Last year Nutmeg suffered from a very serious stroke, but now he is up and recovering fast. His owners say that he still has many lives left: “He is not our cat, we are his humans and he never lets us forget that. Maybe that is the secret to his long and happy life.”
