Nobody knows where beauty rules come from. Some of them are common sense, some of them based in medicine whereas other simple seem like they have been uttered by a very loud influential person and taken for granted. Some rules are outdated, some taboos have been broken, so let’s see which things we aren’t meant to do but we simply must!
It’s either your eyes or your lips
There is someone to remind you of this pretty much every day. Tasteful makeup can take on a lot. Feel free to emphasize your lips with a red lipstick while at the same time having dark smoky eyes. This rule only applies if you are wearing make up for clowns in which case this is the least of your worries.
Wearing dark lipstick makes you look older
How much older exactly? Even if this were true, pulling off that gorges dark purple hue is totally worth looking a couple of years older. Whichever shade you prefer, chocolate or burgundy, you can match it with the spark in your eye by using some lip gloss.
Do not sculpt your face
Contouring is the only way round-faced girls can have a jawline or cheekbones. You can play a little trick on observer’s eyes by using this technique but what you are doing here is basically emphasizing your natural features as they are, for one reason, or another, not as prominent as they should be. Feel free to sculpt your face, your make up will not be any heavier than normal and you can also pull off a perfect natural look.
Liner should be thin
That’s just one way of applying it. There are other looks you can go for if you decide to make a thick line. A thick line is just as easy or just as hard to draw on. You still need it to be straight and pointy. A thick line with some mascara can be your full evening eye makeup so do not stress if your hands are too shaky for the thin one.
Your look should fit your age
Someone’s look should fit an occasion and more importantly fit their personality. Makeup can fit your skin, complexion or the shape of your face, clothes can fit the purpose and a role you play in your life, neither of them can fit your age. Who’s going to tell Tina Turner she cannot wear short skirts anymore? You are allowed to dress and beautify whichever way you find fit, don’t mind other people. Conservatives will always shake their heads in disapproval and think the rest of the world not conservative enough.
Wear fake eyelashes with the evening makeup
Nothing can draw attention to your eyes as well as long eyelashes. Beauty experts behind Lashblossom advise that fake lashes can now look as natural as your own. Practically with them on, you won’t need much makeup or any for that matter since you will have an attribute ready at all times. Since you won’t be wearing makeup and your lashes won’t look fake, it sounds to me that it doesn’t get more natural than that.
Do not wash your face with soap
This is an old one from the time when they just had ‘the soap’ and it used to dry their skin. Nowadays we have all kinds of soap bars suitable for each skin type and quite safe to use. With minerals and moisturizers, the soap is very likely to leave your skin clean, protected and nurtured.
Do not touch your spots
Seeing that we are talking about beauty here and spots are not very beautiful there is something that has to be done about them. You can use concealers or other products to dry them out but that may last for days. I read an advice by Eve Lom to use chamomile tea to treat the spots. You can warm up your face on its steam and dab a cotton pad in it. Gently press it against the whitehead and hold. Repeat the action several times. The objective is to soften the skin to allow for the puss to drain. Gently press the swelling of the spot from all sides to drain it. There is an emphasis on the word gentle here as you do not want to leave any bruising or scaring. Once done, put some antiseptic on it.
Always cover the roots
I remember thinking that I must have a strange taste since I always liked when my roots start showing and when my hair dye starts washing out. A couple of years later, women everywhere started dying their hair two or more colors and not to even mention the ombre hairstyle which basically looks like you are letting your hair dye grow out. It is not good for your hair and the skin on your head to use dye too often. Depending on how fast your hair grows, you would have to do it at least once a fortnight which is a lot. So relax, let the roots show, rock that style for a bit and let your hair recuperate before you put a new coat of fresh dye.
‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ is the proverb stating my opinion about beauty rules. You are allowed to express yourself whichever way you want and not care whether anyone else likes it. Every new rule was created by breaking an old one so feel free to make the rules and not obey them.
