The story of his proposal to you is a story that will last a lifetime. He’s thought of everything – where you’ll go, what he’ll say, and how he will present you with the ring.
Now, here are four things that reveal who he is based on his proposal:
Location, Location, Location
He’s found what he believes to be the perfect location.
Maybe it’s meandering through a flowering garden path, enjoying a picnic in a newly plowed hayfield, or sharing wine and a decadent meal in a quiet corner of your favorite candlelit restaurant.
Perhaps, he’s chosen a rustic tree stump on a snow-capped mountain overlooking the white snowscape below, a large, mossy rock jutting out into a river, or on a driftwood log at the beach at sunset.
What each of these locations shows you is that he’s adventurous, fun-loving, and organized. Likely, this is a place you have visited together or, at least, he knows it’s a place where you would enjoy going. He will have thought about how to get there (driving, hiking, parking), how to get you there (yes, those are different – he may need to involve your friends or he might need to use a little deception), what you will need when you get there (snacks, wine/glasses, blanket), and how to make it special (candles, flowers, a packed overnight bag/backpack).
Wherever he’s chosen to pop the question, he’s going to make it fun, memorable, and convenient for you.
Have You the Ring?
Once he’s dialed in the location, he’s got to figure out how to present you with the ring.
Maybe he will have it tied to your favorite bottle of wine by the sommelier at your favorite restaurant – totally worth the corking fee! Maybe he will crown the turret of a sandcastle for you to find. With a slight bit if planning and engineering, he might choose to adhere it to the seat of a ski lift chair so it rides up behind you. Maybe he will have it drop shipped to you via drone during your picnic in the park.
Whatever way he chooses to give you the ring, you can bet he’s put some thought into it. He’ll want you to notice that he’s a planner, that he’s clever, that he loves to surprise you, and that he can be silly, too. All of these qualities will bring so much fun to your marriage, not just your proposal moment or your Big Day.
The Words Make the Man (Not Just the Clothes)
Every woman knows that what he says is as important as where he proposes and how he gives you the ring. Every girl out there wants him to be sincere, sweet, and emotion-filled.
Perhaps he will write a poem (those are not out dated). Poetry has been a long-standing and excellent way to convey deep emotion.
He may opt to recall the first moment you shared a joke. Maybe you had a horrific first date or experience early in your dating that he will narrate to let you know of the moment he began to fall in love with you.
He may give you a handmade card that he and your child made together – heart melt!
However he chooses to express his feelings, you can be sure that he is thoughtful, genuine, romantic, sentimental, and/or humorous.
The After Party
If he’s got a big event planned that includes a photographer and your family and/or friends lending a hand in the proposal, you can be sure that he is socially oriented or knows you are, he’s family focused, has strong values, and is playful. You can count on a lifetime of having those who are important to you close by.
When you know you’ve found Mr. Right, how he asks you to permanently be a part of his life, will give you a glimpse of what life together will be like. May it be what you always dreamed of.
