Breakups are hard! It’s a period where our emotions are raging and the stress we experience has a direct impact on our bodies.
Here are the 4 ways our body reacts to breakups:
1. Weight gain or loss of appetite
Many people have appetite problems after a break up while others turn to food. Stress causes the body to secrete more insulin which accelerates fat accumulation. Stress can also cause diarrhea and abdominal pain.
2. Sleep problems and anxiety
People need human contact and when lose it, we literally feel pain. The need for contact is the one that causes anxiety. Studies have shown that pain after a break up activates the same brain part that supports cocaine addiction.
3. Skin problems
When a person is depressed, he takes less care of himself. Those stress hormones can make your skin look really bad. A person going through a breakup is more likely to have acne and experience hair loss.
4. Chest pain
Pain is in our brain, and experiencing a breakup can cause real pain, most often in the chest. Breakups aren’t good for people with heart problems too. Those people can end up experiencing a heart attack or arrhythmia.
