Barley is a red-colored outgrowth that can occur on your eyelid or below it. It looks like a little grain and it causes itching, irritation and pain. The inside of the barley is filled with pus and it generally last not more than a few days.
Chalazion is also an eyelid infection, but it’s round, solid and smooth blister and it mainly occurs on the edge of your eyelid.
Both chalazion and barley are harmless and can’t cause any damage to your vision. Barley is mainly caused by staphylococcal bacteria and chalazion is caused by clogged exit canal of your glands that lubricate the eye lids.
Although they’re not life threatening and don’t cause any damage, they can be quite painful and cause a lot of itching. If you want your barley to go away faster, you can try these 6 amazing homemade remedies:
1. Crush a couple of fresh mint leaves. Once they’re crushed place them on the barley. Leave them for 5 minutes and then wash your face with lukewarm water.
2. Use ½ liter of water and 1 tbs. dried calendula petals to make a tea. When the tea is done, soak a clean gauze in it and place the gauze on your lid. Hold the gauze there until it’s completely cooled.
3. Mix 1 liter hot water, 25gr chamomile, 10 gr horse tail and 10 gr thyme. When the mixture cools down, apply coatings of the solution on your eye.
4. Dip a cotton ball into a raw Aloe Vera juice and apply it directly on the eye.
5. In a pan, heat a Swiss chard leaf with some water for 5 minutes. Strain the mixture and let it cool. Place the leaf on your eye while keeping it closed and leave it there for 30 minutes.
6. A breastfeeding mother can really help you cure your barley. Apply a few drops from her milk directly into your eyes.
