Everyone talks about how bad is to go to bed with your makeup on but when you get home at 2 in the morning, the last thing you want to do is spend 30 minutes taking the makeup off. An ordinary girl tried to put this belief to the test and research the effects of sleeping with makeup on.
Here’s what she found out:
1. Every skin type suffers from sleeping with makeup
If you thought that only people with dry/oily skin feel the negative effects of sleeping with makeup, you’re wrong. Dennis Gross, a dermatologist claims that sleeping with makeup is one of the biggest mistakes a woman can make.
2. Sleeping with makeup will age you prematurely
“The large particles and pigments break down over the day and have been exposed and metabolized by natural processes as well as exposure to environmental pollutants and bacteria, molds, and mites from the outside. The metabolic byproducts, as well as the breakdown of the makeup itself, prevent the important role of microcirculation, which helps renew skin,” explains dermatologist Jeannette Graf.
3. Your pores will get enormous
Sleeping with makeup on will block your pores and will leave the oils trapped inside. This will cause bacteria to build up, acne, breakouts and enlarged pores.
4. It might cause your eyelashes to fall out
“Wearing eye makeup overnight can also be hard on your eyelashes. Left-on mascara can cause eyelashes to become brittle, break easily and even shed faster,” explains Schlessinger.
Here’s Anna Pursglove’s story: “My eyelashes, meanwhile, seemed to have stuck together into two giant mono-lashes, meaning applying further mascara was getting difficult. On several occasions I caught myself pulling eyelashes out in clumps and became genuinely concerned that they might all come out.”
5. Cheap makeup will make things even worse
Don’t try to save money on products that go directly on your face.
“In general, department store–quality cosmetics use better-quality base ingredients, which cause the products to glide on more smoothly, last longer, crease or crack less often, and be gentler on skin,” reports Divine Caroline.
6. You’ll never have soft lips if you sleep with your makeup on
Sleeping with your makeup on will make your lips dry and chapped. If you constantly go to bed with your lipstick on, you won’t have good looking lips and that’s a fact.
