Is your hair driving you crazy? Are you struggling to get it to look good just like the celebrities? Fear not! We have some great advice that you can follow from the comfort of your own home to get it looking beautiful and red carpet worthy (just in case you need to dazzle at an event, one never knows!).
Step 1: Don’t overdo it
You may think adding lots of product will sort out all your hair problems but try to keep it simple. There are some products that you absolutely must use but don’t go overboard! A simple oil massage will go a long way compared to heavy products that weigh your hair down. Try rubbing in coconut, almond or olive oil into your hair and scalp. Leave for an hour or better yet overnight.
Step 2: Do some research
Depending on the type of hair you have and the problems you face with it will determine the regime you follow. There are some intriguing things you can use straight out of your kitchen from bananas and strawberries, to honey and baking soda. Beer is even known to help get instant shine, who would have thought!
Do a little research online to see what homemade recipes are available to follow – you may be pleasantly surprised by what works, and the best part is it’s way more affordable than some products you get at the store.
Step 3: Supplements help
We are sure you’ve heard this one already but there are some good supplements to help with hair growth available to buy online and from health shops. Look out for a hair, skin and nails formula that will cover all the essential nutrients that you need for gorgeous locks. Some to keep a look out for include Vitamin A, B-Vitamins, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Vitamin E. Iron is also important as well as zinc.
Step 4: Protein is important
In addition to a supplement make sure that your diet contains enough protein. Hair follicles are mainly made up of protein, so having enough in your diet is important for hair growth.
Some of the foods which are high in protein and recommend for better hair growth include eggs, berries, spinach, fatty fish, sweet potatoes and, of course, meat. If you are vegetarian or vegan try to incorporate some form of protein into your diet that will aid your hair growth. There are plenty of articles and recipes online so get searching for inspiration. Pinterest is also a good place to look so don’t forget about that fantastic resource.
Step 5: No more dry hair
For extremely dry hair here are some good tips. There’s nothing worse than having dry hair so we sympathize if that’s your hair issue but don’t fear with a little bit of TLC your hair will be luscious and back to how it should be looking in no time.
Some other ideas that can help dry hair are investing in a silk pillowcase, using a Moroccan oil treatment, avoiding heat styling for a while and as mentioned in Step 3 using supplements to aid hair growth and shine. Omega-3 is important so try that to see if it helps too.
Step 6: Don’t wash every day
You’ve probably heard this advice before, probably because it’s so important. Our scalp produces natural oils and by washing every day you strip these natural oils and this can cause hair to become brittle or even greasy as your scalp tries to compensate for the lack of oils. For this reason, it’s best to wash your hair every 2 – 3 days. Using dry shampoo between washes can help hair to not look so oily and doesn’t strip the oils as shampoo does.
Step 7: Wash your hairbrush
This may seem obvious but many people don’t wash their hairbrushes. It can get extremely oily after months or even years of use so our tip is to use a little shampoo and warm water and wash the brush thoroughly. Don’t forget to let it dry properly before putting it back in the cupboard.
