This incredibly moving photo of a grandfather and his grandson with their matching ‘zipper’ scars from heart surgery has touched thousands around the world.
The photo was taken by the photographer Sunshine Moody, and is showing how Allen Halstead is cuddling with his 11-month-old grandchild, the little Kolbie Gregware. They both have been through multiple open heart surgeries and share similar ‘zipper’ scars on their chests, despite being at opposite stages of life.
“My dad has had two open heart surgeries, 18 stents, pacemaker, deflector, artery disease, diabetes, massive stroke, to many to count mini heart attacks and has 10% heart function“, wrote Kolbie’s mother on her Facebook profile.
Kolbie had his first open heart surgery when he was just 4 months old after being born with a heart defect, pulmonary vein stenosis, pulmonary hypertension, chronic lung disease, kidney disease and Down Syndrome.
“’I was in tears when I saw this picture! … It shows 2 fighting miracles!“ said Kolbie’s mother.
