Sometimes it can be hard to go to the gym because you have family, work, and a household that you have to take care of. Going to the gym or getting in a fitness class that is an hour long sometimes it just seems too hard to actually do. If your like most people, you are stuck in a conundrum where other things come first before you. That’s not good! And you know it because your health matters too. So what to do?
Here is a list of things that you can do to help you get in a workout in your everyday life:
Take Advantage of Your Workplace
Here’s an idea, instead of taking the elevator up, why not take the stairs. Of course if you have to go up 18 or so flights of stairs that may seem impractical. That’s OK because you can always walk a few flights of stair up and then take the elevator. This is a natural exercise and you will feel good doing it afterwards.
Another thing you can do is stand. Yes, stand! Long periods of sitting are linked to risk of diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. Standing actually helps to increase you calorie expenditure. Squatting at work is also a way to get in an exercise and it can be used in any workplace. If you work in an office, simply take a moment and squat. Co-workers may look at you funny but if you remind them that they can get in a good exercise simply by taking a minute to squat. I’m sure they may want to join in as well. If you work at a retail store, you can lift clothing from a bottom shelf. Squatting is an exercise that is naturally occurring because we more than likely do it everyday, so why not do it as an exercise for a minute or two to keep your muscles working.
Walk, Run, or Cycle; Don’t Drive
Driving may be convenient, but if you take public transit then your probably going to walk a bit more. Walk, run, or even cycle to run an errand. You’ll feel more relaxed and you’ll enjoy the workout. Small changes in activity will make a big difference in the long run. As you start to use your body more then you’ll be accustomed to it and do it more often.
Skip for 5 Minutes
Did you know that skipping can burn 10 calories per minute. There is no other exercise that can burn so much so fast. Skipping for 5 minutes can then net you a 50 calorie burn. 10 minutes can net you 100 calorie burn, and so on. Skipping is convenient and it doesn’t require a lot of space. A rope is cheap to buy and it’s fun to do.
Find An At-Home Workout Program
The rise of at home fitness is a growing trend. People don’t have the expenses for up class overpriced gyms. Find some time to find an at home workout program that fits your schedule. HIIT workouts online are usually convenient because they can be done in 15 minutes and you get the most out of your workout. HIIT is short for High Intensity Interval Training, it can be difficult but you lose a lot of weight fast and get fit really quick.
At the end of the day you have to find any small thing that can help you use your body more. Change the way you think of a workout. Think of a workout as how can I use my body more in everyday life. When you think of it that way, you will use your body a lot more than usual. Remember to take care of your body and find anyway to be creative to workout.
