Disadvantages of Tankless Water Heater
  • Initial costs and installation: Installing a tankless system comes with heavy cost, ranging from pipe attachment and installation as well as electricity. Also, for gas/propane appliances, both pressure and volume requirements must be met for optimum operation. Ultimately, these costs a lot. So, if you can afford such ass expense, it just a one-time investment for life.
  • No room for other energy source: Tankless water heater operates under two heat sources only gas and electric. Therefore, there is a room for new source unlike the traditional tank-type that can use as many as heat sources.
  • Expensive: The tankless water heater costs as twice as or even thrice the conventional storage tank. A traditional tank-type water heater costs up to $900, while the tankless can go up $1800 or even $2700.
  • Energy needed: For electrical water heater, high energy supply is required to run a device. Also, an additional circuit may be required. It creates demand on management problems for electrical utilities.
  • No Multi-supply of water: Tankless water heater do not supply water to different water sources. For example, a single supply to a shower and another to a laundry.
  • Power cut/blackout: Unlike the traditional tank-type water heater, that can supply the hot water stored in the tank even if there is no power. Whereas, tankless water heater, depends on the power for its functioning.
