In the year 2016, we had half buns, crimped locks, heavy contouring spiced up with some “on fleek” eyebrows and many more. However, this year has something different in mind. In the sea of new trends that come and go at the speed of light, I picked five of them which, in my opinion, are trickiest and most fun of them all. Enjoy.
Mermaid eyes
We all fell in love with those “evergreen” dark smoky eyes, there is no doubt about that. But, don’t you think it is time for a little upgrade? Especially now, when summer is approaching and the sea is calling. It is time to revive our childhood fantasies and wake our inner Ariels up. Achieving this look is not as hard as it seems. Apply shimmery purple shade on the inner halves of your eyelids, apply blue on outer halves and green below the eyes (if you want to pay respect to the glitter under-liner trend AND to create an even bigger impact, use some green glitter over your green eyeshadow). The finishing touch is of course the winged eyeliner, and my suggestion is to give some of the angled Sigma brushes a try for that perfect half-flick.
Glitter lips
If you are a religious follower of fashion shows like myself, you must have noticed how much all those mega-popular brands such as Fendi and DKNY embraced this bold trend. It definitely took their shows to a whole new level and earned so much attention. To achieve this look, you’ll need a lipstick in a shade of your choice, small makeup brush for applying glitter, liquid base for glitter, glitter (duh!), matching lip liner and a cotton swab. Line your lips and then add a thick layer of your wet lipstick. Next, fill your makeup brush with liquid and then with glitter. With slow and dabbing motions apply glitter to your lips and clean the excess glitter from your teeth and face and voila, you are good to go.
P.S. you might want to leave this look for night-out purposes only, for now (wink).
Glitter strobing
You probably think: “Oh great, I have JUST learned how to contour properly, and they HAD to invent some new, ridiculous makeup technique.” Well, the good news is that this is something you probably already know. Strobing is actually a new and fun term for highlighting. This year is going to be all about embracing our natural glow, with a tiny bit more highlighter which will be spiced up with some more glitter, minus the bronzer. The right way to achieve this look is to use a highlighter on places that catch light, in other words, highest parts of your cheekbones, bridge of your nose and on your brow bone. And when it comes to the glitter part, you will use it only on your cheekbones.
Rapunzel hair
There is long hair, super long hair and then there is this – Rapunzel long hair. Basically, it is now super popular to have your hair reach underneath your hips (still not long enough for a prince to save you from the tower, but who needs a prince anyway?). And yes, I am fully aware of the fact that it takes years and years to grow your hair that long, and nobody is asking you to. We have hair extensions after all, right? Just observe how many celebrities are embracing this hair trend lately, from Cher all the way to Kim K. It is sexy, it is super glamorous, and I’m sure that all of you wanted to try and steal Rapunzel’s style at some point in your life, right?
Metallic nails
If you have any social media account, you see these at least once a day. They have been around for a while, and it seems they are going to stay among us until who-knows-when. Not to mention that there are tons of variations you can try out – from classic mirror-like ones, over green, yellow all the way to red, blue, pink etc. This nail look is also super easy to achieve at home with the right equipment of course. You’ll be needing a nail gel, UV lamp and sparkly chrome powder which you’ll rub onto your nails.
