By the age of 30, women take up several responsibilities- child care, job, home management to name a few. While it requires rigor and hard work, it also brings stress and thus hormonal changes. Women in their 30’s are so pre-occupied with work and managing their families that they forget the one most important thing- themselves and self-love, self-care! This can lead to health complications which usually go undetected until it gets a bit more serious.
One thing for women to remember in their 30’s is that if they don’t take action now, it’ll be too hard to recover in the later years. Here are 5 most common mistakes that women definitely make in their thirties (in no particular order) –
1. Not Pay Attention to Metabolism Slowdown
As we grow older, our metabolism does slow down, but since it isn’t quite evident, most women don’t bother about it at all. Metabolism slows down various reasons – genes, age, lifestyle, etc. Body fat also increases at 30 and above, and if it is not kept in control, women tend to put on a lot more weight as they grow older, especially in the mid areas of the body.
The solution for this? Strength training. No, it won’t make you bulky. On the contrary, it will reduce body fat, maintain muscle mass (much needed in your 30s!) and will keep that overall metabolism going as much as possible- leading to a mentally, physically happy you!
2. Drinking Like It Is the End of The World
It’s no secret anymore; women still do drink more than they should, even at thirty. While many women do it as a social norm, or with colleagues in an office party, it is still okay to say no, and opt for a non-alcoholic drink instead. Do remember that alcohol break down by the body gets slower as you age, so drinking like you did on your 21st birthday is a strict no-no if you want to keep fit and prevent health issues as much as possible. While we’re not saying one should completely stop, it’s always a better option. Limit to one drink per day, 3 times a week at the max.
3. Not Making Time for Doctor Visits
Although you may be super busy with your 9 to 5 work schedule, along with your family duties- missing out on your regular checkups is the biggest mistake you can make! Most women in their 30s do not realize that they are very prone to getting diabetes, cholesterol or high blood pressure. Periodic screenings, dental checkups are equally as needed as one of your weekend getaways. Do make sure to get a full body checkup once or twice a year. Another important thing is health insurance. If you’re 30+ and don’t have one yet, contact Healthcare RCM companies right away!
4. Eating Unhealthily
Since your metabolism does slow down, your body can’t possibly break down all that processed food like it used to when you were younger. You’ve had your fill of indulging in pounds of ice-cream, sugar and oily foods- which must be reduced now. Add more lean protein, to enhance that muscle mass build, and keep metabolism from slowing down too fast. While it is not too late to start keeping track of what you eat, but now is the latest you can do so.
Bone mass deteriorates as your grow- make sure to take your calcium supplements as well as all the milk and dairy you can get your hands on!
5. Lack of Skin Care
With global warming on the rise, the sun’s rays aren’t as harmless as they used to be. Make sure you get the right amount of sunscreen with the right SPF. Moisturize your skin all winter, and pay attention to signs of acne. Adult acne is caused by stress, hormones and diet, but treating these with teenage skin care is not the way to go about it. Follow a daily skin care routine.
