It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas and that means tons of food and drinks that are not the best for your health. It’s OK to relax a bit, but make sure you’re always on top form.
Nutritionist Vidhi Patel from Minerva Research Labs is sharing some tips on how to stay healthy during the holiday season.
Here are the 6 hacks for staying healthy during the Christmas holidays:
1. Cut down on red meat
Cut down on red meat and try the healthier alternatives such as turkey, fish or chicken. If you decide to have red meat, avoid drinking red wine because the combination can be too much for your body.
2. Replace white chocolate and normal milk with 60-70% dark chocolate
Dark chocolate is a powerful antioxidant and contains less fat. It’s also extremely delicious.
3. Limit yourself to only one sweet type per day
Christmas means tons of chocolates and sweets, so it’s important to eat them in moderation. If you eat a slice of cake, avoid chocolates for the next 24 hours. Loads of sugar can make your skin look older and tired.
4. Drink red wine
Red wine contains resveratrol, a compound that lowers the risk of blood cloths and prevents blood vessel damage. Pour yourself a glass of wine and enjoy the healing anti-oxidants that wine provides you.
5. Remove your makeup
The last thing on your mind after a late night Christmas party is cleansing and moisturizing, but remember that your skin will be grateful for it. Sweat and dirt from the day can stay on your pores and then cause breaks.
6. Do not snack, eat a proper meal instead
Everyone has a busy schedule during Christmas so most of the time, you end up snacking junk food. A snack is not a meal, it will only provide you calories and extra sugar, no nutrition. Take some time to eat a proper meal!
