So you’re not completely satisfied with your body — that’s fine. This dissatisfaction is becoming increasingly the norm as social media amplifies different trends. One trend is the Brazilian Butt Lift and this is because of the Kim Kardashian West’s, the Jennifer Lopez’s, and the Cardi B’s who have introduced us to their bodacious behinds.
Obviously, I am an advocate for cosmetic procedures to help you find the best version of you. This is the driving mission of our clinic, Goals Plastic Surgery. But, there are five important pieces of advice I share with anyone considering going under the knife. Remember, once you make this decision, you will experience life changing results.
With that said, let’s examine the blade.
-
Regulatory Body
Before having any surgical procedure, it’s important that your health be solid. Underlying health issues can cause complications after surgery. For this reason, your first consultation should be all about what I like to call the ‘regulatory body.’
It is important to determine whether your body is capable of undergoing major surgery. During that first consultation you will need to answer a number of questions in order to make sure this is a safe option for your body.
For example, the Brazlilian Butt Lift aims to take fat from one part of your body and inject it into your butt. Oftentimes the fat comes from your stomach, sides, and back and this is what gives you the hourglass shape Kim Kardashian West is so famous for.
So, it’s important to make sure you have enough excess fat in the right places in order to give you the results you want. It also should be noted that surgery cannot fix a high body mass index (BMI) — it simply shapes the body you have.
-
Weigh ALL Your Options
With that being said, there is a long list of procedures, invasive and noninvasive, surgical and nonsurgical, that you will want to consider before reshaping your body. So do your homework and create realistic expectations for your body.
Part of having realistic expectations is considering time. All bodies will age and sag with gravity. Surgery can correct and lift this sagging, but even a body that has gone under the knife will droop eventually. We recommend changing your body bit by bit. Allowing for a natural anti-progression of aging will give you the most natural results.
Plus, when you stack multiple surgeries on top of one another, the recovery time will become longer and recovery is crucial for maximizing results.
-
Patience Post-Op
The key is recovery, recovery, recovery. Why? Fat is a living, organic matter that fluctuates with your hormones, your lymphatic system, and your circulatory system. What this means is, the fat needs time “to take” when it’s moved from one part of the body to another. This will require your patience and attentiveness to rest.
Only about 50% of fat takes in order to create a rounder bottom or larger breasts.
When patients hear this they often say, “well then, inject more fat,” and all I have to say is — it doesn’t work like that.
Remember, this is surgery. Your body will do everything to heal itself.
But patients need to know that there are many steps to take to ensure long-lasting results. Most importantly, remember to have patience and let the body rest. Here are some other post-op care tips:
- Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol
- Keep your immune system happy and healthy (the better immune system you have, the better the chances the body will accept the procedure)
- Avoid exposure to sun
- Take time off of work
- Maintain a healthy diet (once you leave our office, it’s up to you to maintain the work we have done for you)
- Do not overexert yourself

Trend or Truth?
This one is really important to hear from a plastic surgeon. Before any procedure, ask yourself “am I truly doing this for me or am I simply chasing a trend?”
Trends come and go, what is popular today, fades tomorrow, and could be nonexistent in five years. So make sure this is something you are going to be happy with long term. Like getting a tattoo, cosmetic surgery is permanent and will change your physical form. Your surgeon will strive to create the best you, but ultimately it is up to you to decide what the best version of you will look like.
-
Avoid The Pitfall of Perfection
Not following trends allows you to avoid the pitfall of perfection. In order to not fall into the trap of chasing perfection, know what makes you feel best before going under the knife.
No one is perfect. This is an ideal that cannot be achieved. Oftentimes, the more procedures you get done in order to have an ‘Instagram body’ — the more dangerous plastic surgery becomes. Keep in mind, the ability to alter your physical image on Instagram is all too easy and creates unrealistic standards of beauty. The Instagram profile of a high-quality plastic surgery center should show real results, no filters, no fake photos.
When you book a plastic surgery procedure, you are on a journey to find the best version of you, not a perfect version. Bodies are imperfectly, perfect. There will always be wrinkles, sags, lines, dimples, stretch marks, and aspects of your body that you aren’t happy with. We can remove all those physical imperfections, but surgery cannot fix broken standards of beauty.
If plastic surgery is the right choice for you, you have the opportunity to create new standards of beauty. Follow these five tips and live up to your own hype!
