We’ve lived in a two-bedroom apartment for 6 years, and by we I mean my husband Craig, our beautiful daughters, Sophia and Claire, and myself, Laura. When the youngest one of our daughters reached the age of 6, she came to us one day in the kitchen and said that she needs a room just for herself and all her dolls. This was the moment that we knew that it’s time to move.
Of course, we wanted to move for a couple of years, but life happens, a lot of times, even on a weekly basis, so things are not that easy, especially financially, especially in NYC. But once we heard our daughter’s need, we knew we had to do everything to make it happen. So we started searching for our new home. It was a miracle when we found a house that had three bedrooms, a beautiful living, and all the rest we could wish for.
We didn’t hesitate a bit to buy it, as it was simply perfect and its price was alright, too. And we thought the hard part was over until we realized that we had to move all of our stuff to the new home. This is where things got a bit trickier.
1. Day One – Kitchen and Bathroom
We wanted to start with the easier aspect of a relocation, so gathering all of our belongings in the kitchen and bathroom was our top priority. Soon as we started to collect all the objects, we realized we don’t have enough boxes. So, my husband Craig decided to visit a hardware store to get the much-needed boxes. We were unlucky, as they only had to really tiny ones.
But this didn’t let us lose our motivation. We didn’t give up. We wanted to move and do everything necessary to make it possible. We didn’t want to get defeated. Then we learned that we didn’t have enough scotch tape, packing peanuts, and newspaper, so we decided we will continue tomorrow and ordered some pizza, New York style pizza, of course.
2. Day Two – Living Room
We started the day by getting everything we didn’t have yesterday. Once we were home with the items, we quickly finished with the bathroom and the kitchen. We initially thought that we wouldn’t have more than 5 boxes. But it turned out, as soon as we ended, we realized that we have 10 boxes. (How do we carry all of that downstairs?)
But we didn’t care or maybe we all thought that we will manage somehow, and turned our attention to the living room. Oh, boy, now the real fun started. Once we got to work, we realized we had so many unnecessary items. Literally half of our things went into boxes and half into the trash bin. Well, at least we didn’t have a lot of things now to carry down from the 6th floor. It’s something…
3. Day Three – Our Bedroom and the Girls’ Room
When we thought that getting all of the items in the living room into boxes was hard, we really didn’t think about the fact that we had 2 bedrooms full of stuff. But we still remained optimistic and we thought that we will finish in three hours. After 5 hours we were only halfway and we were exhausted, not in the mood for packing, and hungry, so we ordered pizza again, New York style pizza, of course.
When we wanted to continue packing, we heard our eldest daughter scream with joy that she found a solution to our problems: professional movers, who were not expensive, at all. So we looked at their offer, decided it was the right thing to do and gave them a call.
4. Day Four – NYC Moving with Professionals
The company we chose was Empire Movers. We heard about them before, from friends and family members, but we thought that we could take care of moving ourselves. We were wrong, of course. So, so wrong. Once we talked through the details with someone from the company, they said that they have time to make the relocation happen the next day.
We were just so happy with how quick they were. Moving within one day? It’s like a dream came true for us. Plus, we didn’t have to touch anything at all. All of our boxes and items and everything will be in the hands of professional movers.
5. Day Five – Finally
The NYC movers arrived with a large truck, and five guys quickly started to work. They were really good at what they were doing. They didn’t hesitate a bit, knew what needed to be done, and had all sorts of equipment to make their life a lot easier. What did we do during this time? Chill! We were the most relaxed four people in the entire New York City during that one hour when the movers did their job.
Once everything was on the truck, we get into our car and followed them. When we got there, the NYC movers quickly brought everything inside, put all of our objects to their right places, and bid us farewell. They worked so fast we didn’t even have time to realize that we were in our new home.
For us, the moral of the whole moving story was that it’s a lot easier when you have the help of professional movers. Some still think that hiring these guys is expensive, but the Empire Movers showed us that even good work can be affordable. We still bless the moment our daughter found them online. P.S. If you are looking for commercial movers in NYC you can also reach to them.
