This woman got tired of seeing staged, unrealistic photos of women breastfeeding. She decided to take a photo of herself breastfeeding her baby, she posted it on Facebook and asked other women if they would like to be photographed too. And that’s how this project began…
“In the media, I feel there is a distinct lack of authenticity in images of women breastfeeding. Most photos are highly stylized, airbrushed and unrealistic; many are sheer fantasy. Whether it is the angelic mother in her clinical white perfection or some model on the front of a fashion magazine. I’m tired of images that fail to show the realities of breastfeeding for most women,” explains the woman who started this project.
This incredible project is about the beautiful messiness of breastfeeding. The project is about no makeup, tired eyes, milk leaks and ratty hair. The project is about puke on your shoulder, toys on the floor, engorged breasts at the park and dirty laundry building in the corner.
Most of all, this project is about empowering women. Showing how the amazing things only women humans can do, to sustain another human life with their own.
