Nobody likes to grow up, but it’s something we all have to do eventually. Peter Pan might have been a cute story, after all, but let’s be honest, it’s not exactly a workable concept in the information age of 2019 when kids are being forced to grow ups faster than ever before. ‘Adulting’ doesn’t have to be a sign of giving up though, it’s just a subtle shift into a different mindset. It won’t make you a different person, it will just make you a more responsible one.
These adulting tips should help make that transition into adulthood feel that little bit less daunting. It might even help make it a little fun (OK, maybe a stretch, but we thought we’d try anyway).
Taking care of your car – Your parents might have been there at the start to pay for your driving lessons and look after your car for you once you’d finally passed that hurdle, but adulthood is about knowing how to take care of your possessions. This means not only washing your car when necessary (more often than you’d think) and taxing it too. You’ll also need t know where to look when something goes wrong and online services such as Allied Autocare are a perfect platform in that regard as they can do the really difficult stuff for you.
Budgeting – Perhaps the most difficult thing about being an adult is being completely responsible for your own finances and financial wellbeing. There is a reason why so many young people leave home and almost instantly find themselves in thousands of pounds worth of credit card debt. Don’t be another statistic. There are hundreds of budgeting apps that allow you to keep track of your finances in a simple way – collating all of your debts and finances in one clear space.
Shopping – Doing the ‘big weekly shop’ once meant dedicated an entire Saturday or Sunday afternoon to whipping around the local supermarket but thanks to the online delivery services offered by all major brands, it’s now something you can quite comfortably do in your pyjamas. Online shopping takes a lot of the stress and bother out of grocery shopping, but do be prepared to make do with a few interesting online shopping substitutions.
Cooking and cleaning – The big ones here. One of the most sobering thing about growing up is realising just how much time and effort goes into keeping a house clean, clothes washed and ironed and yourself fed. It can be easy to let the washing pile u and treat yourself to a few too many takeaways, but there are a few tips that you can consider to keep on top of the housekeeping. Cook in large batches and freezes the results so there is always a potential meal for that evening, dedicate one evening per week to the cleaning and wear your clothes for more than a day at a time to cut down on your washing. Small things, but they all add up and make adulting easier!
