Cookie is an aging cocker spaniel that got left behind by her owner in the San Bernardino City Shelter.
Cookie and another dog got rounded up as strays December, 30. When Cookie’s owners came to retrieve her, they claimed the younger dog, the golden retriever, instead. They got the retriever, took off and let Cookie behind.
Cookie was devastated and she whimpered, watching her family go. Cookie was betrayed the most hurtful and heartbreaking matter.
“Cookie is crying for her family. She watched as the family drove away and left her to die,” said a member of the San Bernardino City Shelter.
When Cookie’s story went public, it drew the attention to many animal lovers. The OC Small Paws So UT saved Cookie from the shelter and got her a “foster mom”.
Cookie is around 8-10 years old and has a medical condition that will require attention and care of a veterinarian. She had already survived one cancer surgery and she’s recovering really well.
Cookie is now enjoying a comfortable life with her foster family. She won’t be put up for adoption because she has medical needs and she’ll remain in permanent foster care.
The volunteer rescue group has been overwhelmed by emails and phone calls about Cookie on its Facebook page. The group encourages everyone who is interested in helping Cookie to consider helping another dog in need, especially an abandoned senior dog.
