Hoshi was diagnosed with a serious case of glaucoma and he had to have his eyes removed. Poor Hoshi was left blind, in a lot of pain and his family was worried he won’t make it. Things were pretty hard for everyone until Hoshi met Zen.
Zen was adopted by the family 6 months before the surgery. The cute, tiny dog was found on the streets of Spokane, matted and filthy. Zen has special needs, just like Hoshi. He has pulmonary edema, enlarged heart, narrowed trachea and bad teeth.
“The moment I saw him, I was in love. Little did we know the big role he would end up playing in Hoshi’s life,” said Pauline Peter, the mom of this duo.
Pauline wasn’t sure how this friendship will work and whether Hoshi will accept little Zen, but luckily, Zen turned out to be what Hoshi needs.
“I was a little worried how Hoshi would react when I brought Zen home from the shelter. To my surprise, he didn’t bark at all. He kept smelling him, staying close to him. Now they are inseparable,” says Pauline.
It’s like Zen knows that Hoshi is blind. He always tries to be by his side, helping him all the way.
“They are hiking buddies,” Perez said. “We attach a leash together and Zen does the leading. Even if they’re on two separate leashes, Zen walks beside him.”
Hoshi has helped Zen too. When Zen first came in the house, he was quiet and very nervous, but with the help of his buddy Hoshi, he became more cheerful and he warmed up.
“Zen picked up a lot of Hoshi’s habits,” says Perez.
There’s nothing that can stop this adorable duo!
