Care Norway started this incredible campaign to highlight the prevalence of sexual assault among women. They have created this extremely powerful video that has gone viral and has reached more than 5 million views. The amazing video is actually a message for all fathers in the world to draw their attention in aim to protect their daughters and stop the violence.
The video called “Dear Daddy” shows us, through the eyes of a girl, what’s it like to live in a world where it’s fun to tease and make fun of women, a world where women are taught to be strong and not to feel hurt by the jokes. The video speaks directly to all fathers in the world, helping them see everything from another perspective.
“I will be born a girl, which means that by the time I’m 14 the boys in my class will have called me a whore, a bitch, a cunt and many other things. Just for fun, of course, something boys do. So, you won’t worry. And I understand that. Perhaps you did the same when you were young trying to impress the other boys. I’m sure you didn’t mean anything by it. Still, some of the people won’t get the joke.”
Did you know that 1 in 3 women will experience sexual assault during her lifetime? Did you know that it is most likely for this to happen around the age of 21?
“So, by the time I turn 16, a couple of the boys will have snuck their hands down my pants when I’m so drunk I can’t even stand straight. And although I say no, they just laugh. It’s funny, right?”
The campaign’s story evolves into showing the girl’s life after finding mister perfect. It is nice and perfect and she’s making her father proud. One day, he stops being so perfect and the girl starts wondering why. Well, she must be overreacting, right? Women are often told to doubt their intuition. Women are raised to be strong, independent because society tells them they need to. If a woman is not feeling good in her relationship, it must be all in her head, right?
Our society sends message to young girls that they need to work hard if they want to keep up in this world ruled by men. That’s why women struggle more and work harder to obtain the same things men get and achieve easier. We’re not talking about feminism here. We’re talking about kindness, humanity and evolution.
There isn’t a word to describe this video, that’s why it’s better to watch it yourselves! It is a video that will definitely touch your heart and soul!
