The lounge room. It’s a place to relax, unwind and de-stress after a hard day at work. A place to spend time with loved ones, friends and family alike. However, it’s also a room that can get neglected. Other things take priority and sooner or later your lounge becomes a shabby shambles, a shadow of its former self. Today, we’re going to take a look at how to bring some subtle and not-so-subtle elegance back into your lounge.
Re-Upholster Your Furniture
One way to breathe some life into your living space is to consider sprucing up your furniture. This can be quite easy to do, and you don’t need to spend a million dollars or even replace your whole suite. You can update your existing lounge suite with some upholstery leather for a fraction of the cost of buying a new set.
Let There Be Light
And it was good. Good at making your lounge seem elegant and inviting. Use a lamp or two, placed strategically on tables or in the corner to throw some light on your walls and corners and your space will look a million bucks. You could also consider investing in a dimming switch for the overhead lights, so you can adjust the lumen level at will.
Create a Feature Wall
Instead of hanging art and pictures willy-nilly around your lounge, try and create a cohesive and coherent tone by having a feature wall. Hang everything, with a good amount of space between each item, on the one wall and you’ll create an eye-catching display to impress guests and give you pleasure to take in. If you have the time and budget, you could even paint it a colour to stand out from the other walls.
Sculpture or Statue
Sculptures are a nice and easy way to introduce a touch of class into your living room.
We’re not talking about Michelangelo’s David here, by the way. A simple, small stone or wooden statue or sculpture placed on the coffee table or a corner is a perfect way to add elegance to the space. You can even pick something like this up quite cheap from a second hand or charity type store.
Mirror Mirror, on the Wall
Your lounge will be the fairest of them all. Place a few mirrors around to catch and reflect the light from those lamps around. It will create a glittery, spacious effect that will dazzle and enliven the room. Not only that, but mirrors can be used to create the illusion of space, allowing even the littlest of living spaces to add a dash of lofty lavishness to their aesthetic.
Get Green
Potted plants create a lovely, inviting and natural atmosphere and help achieve indoor-outdoor flow. They’re also great for your wellbeing. So, pop down to the local nursery and grab a few green friends for your lounge room. If you’re busy with work or otherwise pressed for time try to grab species that thrive indoors with little water. The last thing you want is a drooping or dead fern in your elegant lounge!
Good Smells
Creating atmosphere isn’t all visual. The olfactory appeal is well worth a shot. You could grab an essential oil diffuser or burner, or keep a few sticks of quality incense burning. This creates an Oriental, exotic atmosphere in your lounge that will surprise and delight your guests as they pop in for a cup of tea, coffee or a cocktail on the weekend!
Simple Steps to Elegance
There you have it. From wafting some nice smells around, to creating mood with lamps and mirrors, or designing a feature wall or updating your tired furniture, you are spoiled for choice in how you can create your very own debonair dwelling.
