Ditch the unhealthy white sugar cubes and opt for healthier and natural homemade sweetener. With high levels of GI (glycemic index of only 42) and high fiber content the dates prove to be a healthy source of sugar and energy for the body. The slow release of sugar into the blood stream allows for the energy levels to be stable for a longer period of time.
The date syrup is an easy, healthy sugar supplement which you can prepare in the comfort of your own home. Its use is similar to the one of Agave syrup. Use it as a sweetener in your tea, add a special sweet touch to your salad dressings and healthy homemade desserts.
Method
Ingredients:
- 20 – 25 dates, pitted
- 3 cups of water
Soak the dates in water for two hours, bring to boil on medium high heat and then simmer twenty minutes (allow more time if the dates are very dry).
Take out the dates and press them to extract the juice.
Put the juice back in the saucepan with the remaining water and bring to boil till you get concentrated and thicker liquid. Store your syrup in a glass bottle and keep it in your fridge for a week.
