We know eating fruits and vegetables are great for our health, but soon these healthy foods might be prescribed by doctors in order to avoid some illnesses such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
One recent study has shown that prescribing healthy foods can improve people’s health, which is more economical in the long run.
Medicaid and Medicare, insurance groups from the US are covering these healthy foods prescription with the data provided by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
They studied 2 scenarios, both funded by the insurance groups. The first one contained 30% of fruits and veggies, while the other covers 30% fruits and veggies, plus nuts, seeds, whole grains, plant-based oils and seafood.
The first scenario reduced a large number of cardiovascular disease, 1.93 million. The second scenario that included the broader diet reduced 3.28 million. Both scenarios prevented 120.000 diabetes cases.
The incredible healthy food prescription not only reduced patients, but also managed to accumulate 140 billion dollar savings.
The healthy food prescription is truly a more-cost effective living and can help you avoid diseases. To be honest, spending money on healthy foods is far better than spending on meds and hospital bills.
