While Corey Hancock was hiking in Oregon, he spotted lifeless baby bear in the rain. Corey thought that the bear was dead, but then he noticed a shallow breath. He couldn’t leave him behind, and took the bear with him and started running to his car.
“I thought about my own baby boy back home. The bear looked so much like an infant. Was I just going to stand there and watch it die in the rain? No… I needed to do something,” says Hancock.
They managed to get to the car, but then the baby bear stopped breathing. Hancock performed mouth-to-mouth and the cub started breathing again. He immediately took the dying bear to the vet. He has been treated for severe dehydration and starvation. Now the lucky animal is getting stronger every day.
According to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, this kind man could have been fined $6,000 for taking the bear. Or even worse – sent off to a jail for more than a year. Luckily, there will be no punishment for this hero.
