Expression effortless chic was invented to talk about the effortless (apparent) style of French women. French style is this famous sweet mix of sobriety and spontaneity. But then how to succeed the days of dress break without looking disheveled?
Choosing cool sweaters and sweatshirts it’s only the beginning of an effortless chic. Let’s see!
Rule number 1
Avoid “leisure clothes”
Do not even try to put on your multipocket hiking pants, your Breton anti-drizzle parka or your walking shoes.
Do you want something to save today? You will also be comfortable but more chic with a chinos or fleece pants. Just associate a cool and urban top: denim shirt + blazer OR cashmere sweater with nothing underneath.
Rule number 2
Get rid of pokey sweatshirts, worn-out t-shirts, worn socks, loose pants, crumpled shoes, slouchy sheep boots…
Besides, you should leave behind those comfy too tempting clothes on lazy days. After 30 years, they just give us a dirty look.
Rule number 3
Do not accumulate on you too much of the soft things like “I get out of bed” (it’s 5 pm). Choose clothes that stand.
One soft thing at a time
In duo XXL sweater dress + dripping boots, prefer a sweater dress, yes, but leggings + cavalier boots
OR a big loose shirt + a slim leather + sneakers
OR a sweat + a trapeze mini skirt + ankle boots.
OR a soft printed shirt + raw jeans + boots.
Rule number 4
Give up smurf feet. Yes, it’s tempting to go out in a stuffed liner. But are you sure to resist the call of the duvet after lunch?
There are a lot of easy going and stylish shoes. According to your tastes: derbys, boots, bikers, cowboy boots.
Take the opportunity to slip pepsy socks or a colorful scarf. It is definitely original! Sometimes, just put on a nice coat on “lazy clothes” and we are “dressed”.
Rule number 5: select the right sizes
The most important step is this one. We all have a friend who has a beautiful leather jacket at 400 €, unfortunately chose a bigger size: the result is worthy for a rocker of the 80s. That’s exactly what you should avoid.
The problem is that it’s not so easy to find one’s size for two reasons. The first is that if we are used to seeing ourselves with clothes that are too wide or too tight, it will be difficult to break this habit. The second is that if you find your size, some brands cut much wider than others, and vice versa.
Rule number 6: know the basics
This time, the idea is to have the raw materials to create a good dress style. More clearly, you must have essential parts in closet in order to have simple outfits that go with everything.
How to be well dressed? One of the answers is to own a lot of basics.
- A nice raw jean
- A simple t-shirt set of several colors (white, gray, black, khaki, etc.)
- A gray trench
- A knitted sweater
- A light and light dress
Once again, we will not go into the subject that may be very long. What to remember: choose simple pieces, without patterns, with basic colors.
Rule number 7: add more original pieces
The two previous rules did half the work, you can very well stop there to have an effective style. If you want a more original style, it’s from now on that everything is played out.
Do not to put a huge budget for basics, but to choose more expensive original pieces. Why? A basic as the name suggests, remains basic: we can find a little everywhere and different prices. By cons, an original piece more expensive will be better (this is usually the case but not always attention).
A quality piece will have on the one hand, a much longer life, and on the other hand, it will be much more eye-catching, and that’s what we’re looking for here.
What is an original piece? A jumpsuit, a poncho, a sleeveless jacket, a combi-shorts, etc., the list can be very long. Some pieces can be original by their material like suede pieces for example. Others may be so by their colors.
