When we think of fashion, we usually think catwalks with crazy experimental clothes that aren’t from this planet. While that’s a different subject on its own, fashion isn’t always so experimental. Though, with, there is still more to fashion than meets the eye. At its core, what you wear is a message to the world about you. You’re communicating what you’re like and what you’re into by how you dress. And while doing so, standing out and being true to yourself can be a challenge. So, here are a few fun ways to experiment and still have a unique personal fashion sense.
1. Stay true to you.
This is the most important step, since, after all, it’s all about you. Your clothes, your personality, and your body. If you don’t like something (how it looks or how it feels) – don’t wear it. Simple as that. Because if you do decide to wear something that’s uncomfortable but looks good, you’ll still most likely stick out like a sore thumb. So, if you’re going to wear something, wear it like you own it (because you do)!
2. Find out what you’re into.
If you’ve always stuck to one style of clothes – you might be missing out on so much. So, push yourself to get out of your comfort zone, who knows, maybe you’ll find something you didn’t even know existed. The internet is a great source of inspiration when experimenting with clothes. Whether it be through online games like DressUpWho that let you experiment with different fashion styles, which you can then try to replicate in real life, or through online bloggers – inspiration can come in many different forms.
3. Colors, patterns, and matches.
Fashion isn’t always about standing out, but this doesn’t mean you can’t be bolder than usual when trying out new clothes. So, don’t be afraid to experiment. If you’ve always worn darker shades of colors, don’t be afraid to switch it up and introduce some new colors into your wardrobe. See what matches and what doesn’t. Try matching different clothing items (e.g. shoes to jackets, top, and bottom, etc.) and see what comes out good. Don’t be afraid of patterns either!
4. Don’t overdo it.
Though, with, that doesn’t mean you should go out of your way to be someone you’re not. Balance is key, and just because fashion doesn’t have many restrictions these days, that doesn’t mean you should go all out. Start simple and see where you go from there.
5. Be bold, be you.
At the end of the day, having a personal style comes down to being unapologetically yourself. So, don’t be afraid to experiment, see what online bloggers dress like, try to find inspiration through playing flash games, and most of all – have fun. Achieving a personal style, which is self-expressive, unique, can be hard but it takes time. So, be patient, have fun and most of all – be yourself!
