English is one of the widely spoken languages in the world. As a result, it has become the second official language in many countries. For that parents also wants their children to speak English fluently and without making any grammatical mistake. But unfortunately, most of our kinds are not willing to learn grammar properly though they love this language. I have my own three kids and they were struggling much with their grammar. But being a responsible parent, I took some necessary steps to help my kids with grammar.
Here I’m sharing those necessary steps that I followed to improve the grammar of my kids:
Find the core reason
Try to find the real reason why your kid is not interested in grammar. Be the best friend of him so that he shares his difficulties with grammar. If you can know the reason then it will be easier to help your kid to make grammar interesting to him.
Motivate
An interesting fact is that if you pressurized your kid to learn grammar then he will avoid grammar more but if you can motivate him and make him understand why he should learn grammar then it will be more easy to improve their grammatical knowledge.
Be the role model
If you want to really improve your kid’s grammar knowledge then try to become the role model in front of him by using correct grammar. This practice of you will inspire your kid to learn more about grammar. As kids don’t listen to the order of parents instead they follow the parents what they do.
Play Educative Games
Try to introduce some interesting games which require some knowledge of grammar. By playing games he will gradually learn the basics of grammar and the application of them. Moreover, he will be aware of common mistakes in grammar and it will help him to enrich his knowledge of grammar.
For example, at home, you can try playing dress-up games, hide-and-seek, and other popular games, in English. In other words, get them to learn English in the same way they are learning their first language.
Listen to Songs and Watch Movies
Encourage your kids to listen to songs carefully. From this habit, he will get to know the uses of words correctly. If he watches movies (cartoons or animation) with subtitles then he will get the knowledge to pick the appropriate words to use in any conversation.
Use Online
Today’s world is fully dependent on internet and it can also be used for the educative purpose. There are many websites which deal with online teaching. If you can introduce those websites to your kids, they will be able to know many more things. Moreover, they will be able to use internet for the educative purpose instead of using it in a useless or time killer medium. From the internet, they can easily check their grammar and spelling mistakes.

Kids always love stories. If you can make habituated them with good story books, then they will be able to know more about grammar. You can also readout illustrated storybooks to your kids and trust me it is one of the greatest and simplest ways to develop language, as almost every page is decorated with visual clues. It will enrich vocabulary and encourage your kids to ask questions about character and plot. By doing this they will be able to improve their grammar for sure.
By the way, you can also try audio of storybooks if you don’t feel confident and comfortable to read out loud to your child in English.
Play Word Puzzles
From my personal experience, I can say that playing word puzzles helps my kids to learn the language more. It not only improved my kid’s vocabulary it also helped them in spelling. Moreover, this word puzzles boosted my kid’s memory and encourage them in problem-solving. By the way, this word puzzle is a really cheap toy but its benefits are beyond imagination.
Just Relax
You must be wondering why I am saying you to relax instead of panic! But the truth is being panicked won’t change the situation instead of worsening it. The reality is human nature is to learn from mistakes, so don’t be upset if your kids doing mistakes frequently, just guide them so that they can overcome their mistakes.
