A man from Netherlands bought a dozen quail eggs from the supermarket and put them in the incubator. One of those eggs hatched into a healthy baby quail, which he named Albert.
Alwyn Wils, a 45-year-old Dutch man published a video explaining how could a grocery store egg can hatch.
After bringing the eggs home, Alwyn placed all them in an incubator and began filming their progress. Amazingly, less than a month one of the eggs hatched.
Alwyn wanted to make an experiment after reading online that it is nearly impossible for store-bought eggs to hatch because of their lack of fertilization.
“Albert is a one in a million“, says Alwyn.
“To get a fertilized egg one obviously needs both a male and female. Since the males don’t produce any eggs and the females lay her unfertilized eggs without the need for a male, eggs are rarely fertilized when they get to the supermarkets“.
This man proved that hatching grocery bought egg is possible and what is more interesting that now he has a friend.
“He is so tame that he is becoming a real house friend“, says Alwyn.
Albert has already become a viral sensation and has an own YouTube channel named ‘A Chick Called Albert’.
If you still think this isn’t possible watch the amazing video:
This isn’t the first time а seemingly unfertilized supermarket egg has produced a chick.
In 2008, a woman Caroline Aspin was surprised when she bought two dozen eggs from the supermarket and one of them hatched. She decided to test a claim that stores sell fertilised eggs which can hatch under the right conditions.
