We believe in almost every health myth we hear, but reality is – most of them are untrue.
Here are the myths you should stop believing in:
1. Eating sugar will make you hyperactive
This is so false. There isn’t any scientific evidence that connects sugar with hyperactive behavior. The reality is completely different- sugar releases serotonin, a hormone that has a calming effect on your body.
2. Cracking your knuckles can lead to arthritis
A research done in 2011 has proven that you won’t increase your chances of getting arthritis if you crack your knuckles.
3. You shouldn’t use face creams if you have oily skin
People with oily skin avoid using face creams because they think it will make their skin even oilier. This is false. You can and you must use a proper face cream to have a healthy skin. Simply choose a face cream that doesn’t contain oils.
4. Coffee is great for hangovers
Coffee can’t help you get sober, it will only wake you up and make you realize how drunk you were the night before. The best option to cure your hangover is to drink lots of water.
5. Our body needs 8 glasses of water per day
This actually depends on your daily activities. People who spend their working day, mostly standing need to drink more water than people who spend their day mostly sitting. The average water intake for every person must be 4 glasses.
6. Heart diseases occur more often in men
Heart diseases are the number one killer in women. Women have 50% probability to die during a heart surgery than men.
7. Only women’s biological clock is ticking
This is also false. One research has shown that the quality of semen significantly drops in men over 45.
8. People have 5 senses
People actually have more than 5 senses. For example, they have pain senses, temperature senses etc.
9. Alcohol destroys brain cells
Drinking alcohol won’t destroy your brain cells. If you drink too much, you might end up having health problems, but destroying your brain cells isn’t one of them.
10. Shaving makes your hairs stronger
This is also false. Many researches have shown that shaving doesn’t make your hairs stronger, it only makes them darker.
