If you are one of those women who are always looking for a DIY option, here is a recipe for homemade mascara.
This homemade mascara uses some unusual ingredients and will cost more up front, but if you don’t have these ingredients on hand, buying organic pre-made mascara might be a another option.
DIY Natural Mascara Ingredients:
- 1/4 tsp black mineral powder (a mixture of soil based minerals)
- 1/4 tsp bentonite clay
- 1/8 tsp (about 4 drops) vegetable glycerine
- 1/4 tsp (more if needed) aloe vera gel
- 5 drops lavender essential oil
Bentonite clay helps the mascara dry and harden and not smudge; vegetable glycerin makes the mascara smooth and helps it adhere to lashes; Aloe Vera is great for texture and smoothness and lavender essential oil helps lashes grow.
Here are the other supplies you need:
- A clean mascara container. It is really hard to clean out an old mascara container, so using a small jar or lip gloss container with a mascara brush will also work.
- A medicine dropper.
- A small spatula.
Instructions:
Put all ingredients in a very small bowl and mix until smooth. If needed, add more Aloe Vera gel to get a smoother consistency. Carefully scoop into the medicine dropper with a spatula and slowly squirt into the mascara container (jar or lip gloss container).
Optional: You can add the ingredients directly to the mascara container and mix with the mascara brush. This may take a longer time of mixing to get the ingredients smooth inside.
Use the homemade mascara as regular mascara.
