Headaches are very common and usual problem one can face any time. It can be treated by some simple remedies. They can disrupt your everyday life, ranging from uncomfortable to downright unbearable. There are several kinds of headaches, with the most prevalent tension headaches. Cluster headaches are painful and occur in groups or “clusters,” while migraines are a type of headache that is moderate to severe. Here are several remedies to reduce severe headache;
- Drink Water
Insufficient hydration can lead to a headache. Studies have shown that chronic dehydration is a prevalent cause of tension and migraine headaches. What’s more, being dehydrated can affect absorption and make your symptoms even worse. Focus on drinking enough water throughout the day and eating water-rich foods to help avoid headaches of dehydration. Keep a water bottle in your car. Avoid drinking alcohol, as doing so can actually dehydrate you. Alcohol consumption can also lead to a DUI even if you weren’t driving. Instead, drink a tall glass of water as soon as your head begins to hurt, and then sip throughout the day. The pain will gradually begin to ease, and you will be less hurting to boot and well hydrated.
- Get Adequate Sleep
Sleep deprivation can in many ways be detrimental to your health, and in some people may even cause headaches. For instance, in those who had less than six hours of sleep per night and those who slept longer, one study compared the frequency and severity of headache. It found that those who had less sleep had more frequent and severe headaches. It is more preferable to sleep in the dark if you are having a severe headache.
- Avoid Food High in Histamine
Histamine is a natural chemical found in the body that plays a role in the immune, digestive and nervous systems. Some foods such as aged cheeses, fermented food, beer, wine, smoked fish and cured meats also contain it. Consuming a lot of histamine products might cause migraine as well.
- Essential Oils
Essential oils are extremely focused liquids from a variety of crops that contain aromatic compounds. They have many clinical advantages and are most frequently used therapeutically, although some may be ingested. If you have a headache, peppermint and lavender vital oils are particularly useful.
- Grab a Pencil
Holding a pencil (holding, not biting, or clenching your jaw) between your teeth can help disperse a tension headache. The actual physical act between your teeth holding the pencil activates your smile muscles, calming your jaw. When stressed, we often clench our teeth, which in turn strain the muscle that connects the jaw to the temples and causes headache of tension. Again, make sure your jaw is relaxed and between your teeth the pencil is held slightly.
- Use Ice Packs
Applying cold or frozen compresses to the throat or head reduces inflammation, slows the conduction of the nerves and restricts the blood vessels. Fill a waterproof bag with ice to create a cold compress and wrap it in a smooth towel. Apply the ice pack for headache relief to the back of the neck, head, or temples.
