Wondering why people in America are over-weight? Probably because they’re following these 3 nutrition lies:
Myth 1: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day
Most nutritionists, doctors and everyone who has an opinion claims that you should never skip breakfast, but reality is, breakfast isn’t the most important meal of the day.
We did a quick dig on the research and here’s what we found out!
Breakfast is the first meal after 8 hours of fasting. Although conventional wisdom claims that fasting is bad because it sabotages your whole body- that’s actually not true. Short-term fasting has no impact on your cognitive abilities and skipping the first meal of the day doesn’t have any impact on your metabolism. Some researchers even show that fasting for 48 hours can increase your metabolism.
Breakfast eaters are more prone to being overweight than people who skip it. On the other hand, breakfast eaters are more health conscious and take better care of their weight.
The bottom line is- skipping breakfast won’t make any difference.
Myth 2: Always listen to your doctors
Obesity is the biggest killer in the United States. People often turn to their physicians to help them become healthier and develop healthy eating habits, but it seems they’re turning to the wrong people. Only 0.04% of the 40.000 hours in medical school are devoted to nutrition.
Dr. Yoni Freedhoff, an obesity expert and owner of Canada’s largest obesity clinics says: “ Medical doctors reduce weight loss to “eat less, move more.” That’s sweet in theory, but it’s about as helpful as telling a depressed person that they “just need to be less sad.”
Myth 3: Exercising is key to weight loss
This myth kind of makes sense, but one study had shown something else. Researchers took 320 obese people. They told half to exercise more while the other half didn’t need to exercise. The end result? The subjects only lost 5lb after exercising 3 hours a week, for a whole year.
Most people think that they can exercise out a bad diet, but the reality is that sugary drinks and processed foods play a huge role in weight gain.
Remember, people aren’t fat because they don’t exercise.
