Meet Rachele Totaro. She’s a photographer that loves photographing rats and mice. You might be thinking, what’s so special about mice? What makes Rachele’s session so unique is the fact that she photographs the mice that see the nature for the first time, outside their cage.
The poor little mice were test animals that got rescued by an Italian Charity near Milan. Thousands of animals die in labs each year in Italy. Some of the animals are used for experiments, lethal tests, others are kept in the labs for control or safety until they become a useless expense.
Luckily, Italian law doesn’t allow labs to kill the salvable and healthy animals, but rather release them to charity or individuals. “La Collina dei Conigli” is one of those charities that saves the rats and rabbits from the labs.
Rachele has been supporting the charity for years and she has been a volunteer photographer. She doesn’t use any special effects, just the surprise when the little animals sees and feels the sun for the first time, the curiosity for the brand new world they meet and their joy experiencing freedom.
