It’s no secret that modern farmers use tons of chemicals for growing fruits and veggies. Those chemicals might make the apple look big and juicy but one bite and you’ll taste the rubbish.
So how can you identify genetically modified fruits and veggies and how to pick those that don’t contain chemicals and are actually good and delicious?
Here is how to choose quality fruits and veggies:
Apricot
Appearance – Apricot should have the same color on each side, without soft and darkened areas. Red and yellowish marks are completely normal.
Remember – The surface of the apricot mush be dry and the peel shouldn’t change its shape when squashed.
Avocado
Appearance – The peel should be dark green, rough and clean, without spots and cracks.
Remember – Avocado should be hard.
Eggplant
Appearance – It should be dark purple and glowy. It shouldn’t have any dark spots, cracks or indentations.
Remember – Choose the smooth ones, medium sized and relatively heavy.
Watermelon
Appearance – Lines should be defined and one area need to be a bit yellowish and dry. There shouldn’t be any cracks, spots or indentations.
Remember – Choose a medium sized, hard and heavy watermelon.
Pineapple
Appearance – It should be mainly yellow with brown tones. The leaves must be thick and green.
Remember – Avoid pineapples that have a reddish color.
Melon
Appearance – It should be rough and hard with sweet aroma.
Remember – Ripe melons are dark yellowish.
Pomegranate
Appearance – They should be red with some orange shades. The peel shouldn’t be too dry nor should have cracks or dark spots.
Remember – It should be hard and without any scent.
Potato
Appearance – It should be smooth, without cracks, holes or spots.
Remember – Choose medium sized and hard potatoes
Zucchini
Appearance – The color should be the same on each side and the peel should be smooth.
Remember – Don’t buy zucchini bigger than 15-20 cm.
Lemon
Appearance – It should have a smooth, glowy peel without cracks and bumps.
Remember – Lemon should be a bit soft. Buy heavier lemons because they contain more juice.
Peach
Appearance – It should be bright yellow with reddish tones.
Remember – Ripe peach has yellow or red lines just like veins.
Cucumber
Appearance – It should have light green, thin and almost smooth peel.
Remember – It shouldn’t have any ruffles or indentation.
Tomato
Appearance – It should have light, shiny, thin peel. If the tomato has green areas that means it’s not ripe.
Remember – It should have a rich and pleasant aroma.
Apple

Garlic
Appearance – The cloves shouldn’t have green spots.
Remember – The garlic should be dry and the cloves big.
Onion
Appearance – The layers should be light without any cracks or spots. Choose onion that doesn’t have a root or green areas.
Remember – Quality onion is dry, and it can be easily crushed when being squeezed. Its aroma should be sharp, but weak.
