When BenBen was found on the streets, he looked like he has been attacked by a big animal. The cat’s body was covered with deep lacerations, he had crushed spine and a cauliflower ear. He was fortunate to be found by BCSPCA because other shelter would have euthanized him.
BCSPCA took BenBen in and treated all his injuries. His laceration started to heal and that’s when the volunteers noticed something different about him. His excess skin covered his face and leaving BenBen with the saddest expression ever.
One day a family adopted the cat and it seemed like BenBen got his happy ending. Unfortunately, they returned him to the shelter because they couldn’t handle his medical needs. BenBen could never walk again and his ear will never get back to normal. He would need medications for the rest of his life. The chances of someone adopting BenBen were so small that the shelter scheduled his euthanasia. It felt like BenBen sensed his dead coming since he refused to drink and eat.
One day before his euthanasia, a woman learned about BenBen and decided to adopt him.
“We managed to get everything sorted out the day before his scheduled euthanization and brought him to his forever home,” the woman said.
She took the cat home and he immediately perked up. BenBen found a reason to smile again.
“We sat down with him for about an hour and he was instantly full of purrs, smiles, and ‘thank you’ cuddles. I like to think he knew he was safe and had his forever home at that moment,” says BenBen’s owner.
Not only BenBen’s spirit recovered, but also his body.
“Even though the vets said he would never walk again,” the woman said, “he was determined to prove them wrong.”
Today, the cat runs around the room and goes on leashed walks outside.
The sad look on BenBen’s face will never go away but now he is a very joyful cat.
“He’s doing so well! No one who knew him before can believe he’s turned out so awesome,” the woman said. “We’re so proud of this little monster.”
