Should You Really Store Eggs In The Fridge?

Most people in the U.S store their eggs in the fridge. What you didn’t know is that people from other countries store their eggs on their counters and at room temperature.

Eggs are mainly refrigerated to reduce salmonella risk. If your eggs are infected, the bacteria will grow faster at room temperature, especially if the eggs are more than 21 days old.

The main question here is – Why is there even a risk of salmonella?

Most eggs in the U.S are raised by an industrialized process. The birds are kept in tiny quarters and they’re incredibly dirty. One concentrated flock has more than 30.000 birds and the eggs from these kinds of flocks contain more salmonella bacteria than eggs raised smaller and free flocks.

When you put 30.000 birds in a small building, there’s going to spread feces everywhere. The solution in the U.S is simply washing the eggs instead of feeding the birds with good food and keeping them in clean areas. Washing the eggs isn’t that harmless. The eggs rinsed, scrubbed and sprayed with chlorine and that can only cause the bacteria to spread inside of the egg.

How To Prevent Salmonella?

Start buying organic eggs. Organic eggs are less likely to be infected. Also, they’re considered to have more nutritive values.

So should you continue to refrigerate your eggs? Probably. That’s yours to choose.
