Signs of trauma are not always what we think. It’s not always related to big things that happen to us like war, natural disaster, lost or abuse. Trauma can be a response to events that one person find highly stressful. While some signs of trauma are obvious, there are some things you can’t realize might be caused by your trauma.
Here are some signs of trauma you may have thought were part of your personality that could have developed from childhood trauma or any traumatic event in adulthood.
1st sign – You thank too much when someone is kind to you
That’s because you are not used to someone doing good for you.
2nd sign – You apologize even when you haven’t done anything wrong
That’s because you always got blamed, even when it wasn’t your fault.
3rd sign – You think you can’t remember your childhood
It’s not because you are forgetful, but because your brain pushed those memories away to help you survive.
4th sign – You can’t really accept compliments
You think you are humble? No. It’s because you don’t believe those compliments.
5th sign – You never ask for help, and it’s hard for you to do it
It’s because you’re used to handling everything alone. As there was never someone you could rely on.
However, the sooner you recognize your trauma triggers and symptoms, the sooner you can get to the bottom of the causes you are struggling with. Trauma often worsens over time, so it’s important that you get the help you deserve.
If you identify with any of the above, know that it doesn’t have to stay that way. A trauma therapist can help you heal and live without the burden of trauma symptoms.
