Meet Luca Trapanese, a 41-year old man from Naples, Italy. Luca is a brave man who isn’t afraid of any challenge. Luca did the most virtuous act a human being can do! He adopted a baby with Down Syndrome that was rejected by 20 families.
Luca fought so many stereotypes and fought hard to create a loving family for his daughter. Luca is gay and unfortunately, Italian social services don’t allow single, gay men to adopt. He was told that the only option to get a child is to adopt a kid with behavioral or health problems. When Luca got this news, he was in 7th heaven because his dream will finally become a reality.
Luca adopted his baby girl Alba in 2017. Alba’s mother gave her up for adoption because she was born with Down syndrome. The poor baby girl was rejected by 20 families. Luckily, when she was just 13 days old, Luca came into her life and changed it forever! Luca has been working with organizations focused on children with special needs since he was 14 so he knew what he was getting into. In his application form, he stated that he will be thrilled to adopt a child, regardless of their health condition. When he was called on June 2017 to inform him about Alba, he immediately said yes and rushed to the hospital to get his baby.
“When I first held her in my arms, I was overcome with joy. I felt she was my daughter straight away.It was the first time I held a newborn baby. Before that moment, I had always been scared. But, when I first held Alba, I knew I was ready to be her dad,” says Luca.
Alba is Luca’s entire world and everything revolves around her!
“She brought me happiness and a sense of fulfillment. I am proud to be her dad. I wanted her to be my daughter. I will spend the rest of my life with a girl I love, and we will do many wonderful things together,” says Luca.
“I am proud to be her dad.”
