When your son or daughter has an 18th birthday coming up, you as a devoted parent no doubt have been thinking of a suitable gift. It can’t be something ordinary, it has to special. But what? They already have designer clothes and shoes, a computer, a tablet, a cellphone, along with any number of other gadgets. So, what can you give them? Instead of an item, why not give them an experience?
Young people in general are bored with their young lives. Every day is much like same and they’re looking for excitement. You can give that to them by giving them a skydiving experience. You can bet they will talk about this for years to come. With tandem skydiving, your son or daughter wouldn’t jump on his or her own, but rather strapped to an experience skydiver. All they need are nerves of steel.
If your son or daughter is lacking the nerves of steel, but you think they still might like the idea of doing something daring, a helicopter ride is the next best thing. They’re safe and sound tucked up in the backseat of the helicopter, while the pilot flies them around the city. Sharing with other passengers makes the ride more economical.
If they prefer water to air, you could arrange for a cruise. During the day, the captain will give the passengers a unique view of the city, while a night cruise is more geared toward the romantic. Eighteen-year olds invariably have a boyfriend/girlfriend and what can be more romantic than gliding over the water, under the stars, in the arms of the one you treasure the most.
If your son or daughter is into cars but your finances don’t reach as far as presenting them with a luxury car, a driving experience is a great 18th birthday gift idea. They can pick and choose between exotic or stock, Indy or Formula 2000 or even a motorbike and race it round a race track for the day. Many companies offer discounts for birthday events.
In addition to a driving adventure, you could introduce them to other ways to get their blood pumping. Arrange for white water rafting, ziplining, bungee jumping, scuba diving, or even learning to fly. Can you imagine your son or daughter’s face when you pitch that idea to them or present them with tickets? They might faint on the spot.
If any of the above might proof a bit too much excitement for the 18-year-old, you can take it down a notch by introducing them to golf. Young people don’t spend enough time outside or get enough exercise. By taking up golf they get both. They get to walk the greens, providing with fresh air and exercise. If they already play golf, you can arrange for private lessons with an instructor. Later on, they might surprise you with a hole in one.
Does your son or daughter like the finer things in life? Then arrange for a guided food tour. During a food tour, guests are exposed to a variety of delicacies taking them beyond the traditional hamburger and fries, hotdogs, pizza or spaghetti. During a food tour they might get to sample European or Oriental dishes.
Every boy and girl has an 18th birthday only once. Up to you to make the occasion extra special. Look into the various options and perhaps discreetly pitch one or two ideas and hear and see their reaction. Then again, maybe all your son or daughter want for their special day is a quiet dinner with mam and dad.
