Trends come and go, but great style is timeless. What is more, it is perfectly possible to achieve. If you don’t plan on changing your home anytime soon, and you would like to avoid that “what was I thinking” moment in the future regarding your interior, here are several tips to make your place eternally stylish.
Colors and hues
Perhaps you’re not a fan, but you should definitely go for neutral colors, and fear not. There are more nuances of white, beige, brown or grey than you could even imagine possible. You’ll see once you start deciding on the right one. The ultimate goal would be to create a neutral background, or should we say a playground, as this will allow you to play with your interior by adding various elements using furniture, fixtures or art pieces. These will give the character to the place, and they are easily replaceable. It’s much better than having a complete painting makeover.
Let there be light
It’s always trendy and practical to have as much natural light as possible, so see to it that your windows are always in great shape. As for the lighting fixtures, unless you’re planning to introduce them as statement pieces in some rooms, try to make them almost unnoticeable. Proper lighting should be installed, but it shouldn’t be the focus of the room, unless you intended it to be.
Timeless materials
In order for the materials used for your home to be timeless, they will have to be of high quality. Low-quality materials are not durable, nor do they look presentable after some time. Therefore, you cannot achieve that sense of tradition in any way should you go for something too cheap. Here are some materials you could consider using for different rooms:
- Choose stone countertops for the bathroom and the kitchen countertops. There are so many wonderful designs to choose from, as well as stones: durable quartz, marble, soapstone…
- Hardwood flooring gives color and character to the room. No matter where you live or what other elements you have in your home, wooden flooring always leaves a big impression.
- Checkerboard tiles are a classic in their own right for all of you who wish to achieve that timeless elegance and impress their guests with original design. The design is elegant and subtle, yet fun and striking at the same time. You can use chessboard tiling for your kitchen or bathroom floors, or even as backsplash.
Bathroom and spa
It all depends on how much space you have. Nothing says timeless as a standalone claw bath tub, but if your space is limited, there are other ways around it. Basically, you should invoke that spa feeling about the place. Use the colors such as different shades of blue and green to your advantage. Alternatively, you could go for a more dramatic, yet timeless look with the previously mentioned black and white combination.
Also, keep it clear. A spa has no unnecessary things lying around, so make sure you install enough storage cabinets for all the stuff not related to relaxation and bubble baths.
See what’s cooking
First of all, the kitchen should be functional. As opposed to the other rooms in the house, this one has too many appliances which need to be arranged properly. Speaking of which, technology is tricky in the sense it is always changing, but you will have to purchase the latest high-quality appliances. Fortunately, there is a wide choice of different designs and colors to match the kitchen look.
By the way, it should be white, or in some similar neutral color. Shaker cabinets with their straight, classic lines never go out of style. Similarly to the bathroom, plan your storage carefully. Nothing says temporariness like clutter, doesn’t it?
Though it all seems pretty simple and logical, creating a timeless home takes some effort. However, once you’re done with it, you can enjoy in the years to come without having to plan a makeover every couple of years.
