The newest researches show that paracetamol not only soothes pain, but also stop us from sympathizing with other people’s pain. Scientists claim that numbing the area of your brain that feels pain can also numb the area that’s responsible for sympathizing with other people’s pain.
Some older studies done by the University of Ohio have shown that paracetamol also numbs the feeling of joy and happiness.
“Acetaminophen (the another name for Paracetamol) can reduce your ability to be emphatic, which is worrying. Empathy is important. If you had a fight with your partner and took an Acetaminophen before, your ability to realize what you’ve done to hurt him can be reduced,” explain from the University.
When your heart “hurts”
“People have the unique ability to make hard and complicated decisions,” say the scientist from the University in Kentucky. When people make hard decisions, they sometimes use words that cause physical pain, and that’s why people say their heart “hurts”.
“We consider that making painful decisions, not only has metaphorical meaning. Numbing the physical pain would have the same effect as numbing the psychological pain,” explain the scientists.
“Making a hard decision can be painful and the pain killer can also numb the psychological pain,” they conclude.
Paracetamol can also numb the pain caused by spending too much money.
“This pain killer can also help you reduce the “spending pain”- the psychological pain people feel when they spend a lot of cash.”
