Herniated disc often occurs between the ages of 30-50. It’s mainly caused by aging. As you age, the spinal disks lose their water content. That makes them less flexible and more prone to tearing or rupturing. As a disc degenerates and breaks down the inner core leaks out through the outer portion of the disc. This condition is known as a disc herniation or a herniated disc.
Herniated Disc Symptoms
- Lower back pain
- Pain coming down your leg
- Pain in the buttock area
- Calf pain
- Numbness and tingling in the legs
- Sexual dysfunction
- Weak legs
- Loss of bladder or bowel control (rare symptoms)
What’s Herniated Disc and What Causes it?
Intervertebral disc is consisted of fibrous ring which surrounds an inner gel-like center that contains lots of water. Aging causes the ring to get weak and cracked and when the inner gel leaks out-it presses the nerve and causes lumbar disc herniation. This can be hereditary, but it can also be caused by putting too much pressure on your spine.
Your discs function as sponges- when you’re standing there’s pressure on them and they leak damaging fluids; when you lay or sit, that pressure reduces.
Living hectic life and eating unhealthy foods can cause your discs to herniate. Bad posture, smoking, obesity and lack of physical activity causes weak muscles and that causes weak discs.
Treatment
The best way to treat it is to undergo surgery. It’s really hard to decide whether to go under the knife and that’s why you should try treating it the natural way first.
- Slice one potato and put the slices on your painful areas.
- Mash 10 garlic cloves and fry them for a couple of minutes in some hot oil. Apply the fried garlic cloves while they’re warm on your painful areas and keep them there for 3 hours.
- Take more calcium, magnesium and vitamin B.
